MGA Thermal’s mission is to enable the shift to renewable energy by providing clean, economic, and scalable storage of energy.
We do this using our novel thermal storage material, Miscibility Gap Alloys (MGA), which are capable of storing a huge amount of energy as heat. Bricks of MGA are incorporated into modular storage tanks, which can be applied to a range of applications as wide and varied as providing base load power to the electricity grid, home heating, process heat, and even electric vehicles.
Our patented technology utilises the large amount of latent heat captured in melting processes to store thermal energy over a narrow temperature range. You may have heard of similar systems, referred to as phase change materials (PCM) or latent heat thermal storage (LHTS).
MGA systems can be custom made to suit a wide range of operating temperature, essentially any temperature demand can be met between 200 oC and 1400 oC. Because of the possibility of very high operating temperature, over narrow ranges, MGA thermal storage systems can allow electricity generation, or other, processes to run at very high thermal efficiencies for long periods of time.
